Several rooms within the museum are in the immediate proximity to a subway tunnel. Despite separate user areas the building is architectually very open fashion. Satisfactory acoustic separation of the different user areas had to be achieved through proper acoustic measures.</small></p>" },

"4.jpg": { caption: "<p class='caption'>Amphitheatre of Lyon<br /><br />Room acoustics<br /><small>This conference and multipurpose facility seats 3000 is part of the International City of Lyon project, located between the &#34;Parc de la T&#234;te d&#39;Or&#34; and the river Le Rh&#244;ne. Peutz was involved in  the acoustics of the various buildings of this city, featuring hotels, offices, congress centre, dwellings, cinemas and museum of contemporary art. While it looks like  a roman amphitheatre, it is actually built on the site of the former roman amphitheatre.</small></p>" },

The intersection between different lines shapes the railway station Ostkreuz, which was erected on two levels. This railway crossing has to be upgraded respecting different demands and, monumental interests. Mainly due to the planned large glass platform, technical research into the airflow over the roof and the effect this roof has on the railway station's environment was required. Tests had to show in which way the comfort and quality of stay at the railway station's forecourt were affected by the construction.</small></p>" },

The hall is located in the immediate vicinity to a main railway line and is surrounded by apartment complexes. This places high demands on the suppression of noise emitting from the hall as well as noise entering the hall from outside. The very diverse use of the hall requires adapted room acoustic and noise protective measures.</small></p>" },

A major refurbishment was carried out. The aim was to reduce the echoes whilst increasing the reverberation time and improving the acoustics both on stage and for the audience. The reverberation time was increased to 1.9 s with natural acoustics and to 2.3 s using an electro-acoustic system, while side reflections were added to create a better sensation of spaciousness.</small></p>" },

The variation in acoustics is achieved by volume variation: between 3500 m&#179; for intimate theater and 11000 m&#179; for symphonic music. With a moveable ceiling about 4000 m&#179; can be added in a gallery above the audience. For this project a computer model as well as a model scale 1:12 was used.</small></p>" },

Furthermore noise reduction measures for future expansion of the site were designed and tested.</small></p>" },

The studies concerned noise levels on working stations, noise exposure, whole-body vibrations, hand-transmitted vibrations, air quality regarding microbiological and inorganic substances, ventilation, for instance at welding stations, daylight and artificial light, and physical loads.</small></p>" },

Different demands regarding facade technology, practical use of rooms, HVAC and low energy consumption were approached in an integrated way. As a consultant Peutz was involved at the early design phase as well as the building phase regarding building physics and acoustics. Additionally Peutz was involved in comfort measurements regarding air infiltration at floor level and fire engineering aspects of the atrium.</small></p>" },

In the courtyard of building C23 an accommodation building was realized. By this Shell can completelyfacilitate the hotel needs for students and visitors.</small></p>" },

The Espace de Projection can be regarded as the perfect example of a hall with variable acoustics. The walls and ceiling of this hall consist of rotating elements, with surfaces that either absorb, reflect or diffuse sound altered. The volume and the shape of the hall can both be altered by varying the height of the three separate ceiling sections.</small></p>" },

"15.jpg": { caption: "<p class='caption'>Belval Plaza Tower<br /><br />Vibrations<br /><small>Belval Plaza Tower is a twelve story high office building located directly next to an eight-track railway line for both passenger and freight trains. The vibrations due to railway traffic are transferredinto the building through in a complex way, partly because of a road tunnel underneath the railway tracks. Based on measurements a vibration and air borne noise prognosis was made using the Finite-Element-Method (FEM). Taking into account the geological properties recommendations were given regarding the construction of the building using only elastomer sliding bearings.</small></p>" },

The sound insulation to the environment of the new facility, the hall and its various annexes was improved. Furthermore the vibrations caused by the underground railway lines were reduced. The internal acoustics were not altered, as the specific character of the old Olympia had to be preserved. The hall and stage tower were built as a box in box in order to improve the internal sound insulation.</small></p>" },

To this end the structural, thermal efficiency and acoustic state of all buildings and properties of the Ruhr-University were surveyed and documented over the course of many visits and assessed on the possibilities of restoration within the frame of current legislation.</small></p>" },

The acoustics needed to be optimized for all of the principal activities in the auditorium, including speech, amplified and unamplified music, and stage performances. In order to gain planning permission for the rebuilding of the South Steps, the Royal Albert Hall needed an environmental impact assessment. For this Peutz conducted an environmental noise study, measuring the noise levels and providing the relevant statistical analysis, showing the distribution of noise over time.</small></p>" },

Specific attention was paid to the structure of the walls and sound insulation. The HVAC system was especially designed limit sound levels  to no more then 10dB(A).</small></p>" },

Compliance with modern safety standards made it necessary to refurbish the facility. Architect&#39;s Neyrinck and Carlier managed to introduce spaces for new activities within the building. The building accommodates various spaces such as rehearsal rooms and the 1136 seat opera hall with its 480 m&s&#178; stage. The sound insulation between hall and environment was improved significantly. The reverberation time was also optimized.</small></p>" },

Peutz advised on building physics and acoustics, and were involved from the preliminary design stage through to implementation. Vibration and wind research was also conducted.</small></p>" },

The partitioning walls within the office part were mathematically calculated and tested by measurements after completion. For dedicated sections such as boardrooms, lounges and conference rooms special constructions were developed. For all office rooms and special rooms ceiling panels incorporating cooling systems were developed and tested in the Peutz lab.</small></p>" },

The T1 tower (floor area of 70.000 m&#178;) features restaurants, meeting rooms and underground parking. Peutz designed the acoustics of the open spaces, restaurants and meeting rooms to provide comfort at work: good sound insulation, speech privacy and low noise levels due to installations.</small></p>" },
